One tiny bit of good news in the midst of an awful week.

I sent the third Courtland Chronicles prequel (this one's about how Eric and Ally got married) to Emma, my wonderful editor at Lyrical, this afternoon.

Not twenty minutes later, I got a return email saying we're going to contract.

Not ten minutes after that - BOOM! The contract drops into my email inbox. That's what I call greased lightning!

Once the publication date's set, I'll let you all know. ;)

Whee! That's awesome -- congrats! I remember waiting over a year once to get a rejection on a short story I sent to a magazine. [wry smile]

Well, I've already published three books with Lyrical. I guess by now they figure I'm a safe bet. ;)

Well, sure, I hear back from Torquere a lot faster too. :D But still, from submission to acceptance to contract in half an hour is pretty cool. [grin]

PS -- did I mention earlier that Tory Temple's going to be at EPICon? She wants to join our Gay Smut Table at the banquet. :D And in fact, moving away from smiley-territory, was advised by someone who's been to a few that she should find other m/m writers to sit with, because apparently some of the het writers can be pretty negative about our chunk of the genre, and it's best not to leave it to chance. [sigh]

I think Rick Reed's supposed to be there too. And Emily Moore, who's the co-owner of Rainbow Reviews. She and I are rooming together, in fact.

Something tells me we won't have much trouble filling up our Gay Smut Table. ;)

Excellent. :) It'll be fun meeting other people in our end of the business, too.

Oh, and my husband (who has a magic touch for getting things cheap) got me a room at the resort for a lot less than the conference rate. [pats husband] If you haven't done yours yet, you might poke around and see what's available, rather than just going through EPIC.

Thanks for the heads-up about the hotel! I'd already booked a room, but when I went to their website and saw that I could get it cheaper by booking it there, I cancelled the original reservation.

The hotel looks very nice, but I don't understand why they didn't book the con into one of the Vegas strip hotels.

Welcome. :)

About why we're not on the strip, I don't either, seriously. I mean, I've heard that the hotels in Vegas don't give convention discounts on the room rates, because they have so many conventions there they don't have to, but it's not like the resort we're at is any cheaper, so...? No clue.

The MonteLago's actually quite a bit more expensive than the strip hotels. I'm going into town to stay with a friend of mine after the con, and we got into the Mirage for something like $75 per night.

Wow, that's a pretty big difference. :/ I don't know then. Maybe everything else was booked up? [blinkblink]
